Since mid-2009, when Colrain first identified an opportunity to add tyres and wheels to its existing product portfolio, the tyre and wheel business has grown to become a major part of the brand’s overall business.
Representing Triangle Tyres in Australia, Fullchamp aluminium wheels and the renowned range of MAXUS steel wheels, Colrain has gone about cementing itself as a volume supplier to trailer manufacturers, major fleets and end-users alike. And, due to the addition of newly acquired Queensland Diesel Spares to the MaxiTrans Parts distribution network, growth in this segment is about to go on.
To accommodate the QDS purchase, MaxiTrans has undergone a restructure of its parts business that now sees both Colrain and QDS managed under the umbrella of the new MaxiTrans Parts division.
“Both Colrain and QDS continue trading under their existing names; the only notable change is that access to high quality parts has become even more stress-free,” says Colrain’s National Retail Manager, Justin O’Brien – pointing out that the strategic acquisition was complementary to the existing Colrain wholesale and retail network.
“It’s long been an objective of MaxiTrans to break into other markets and we now have a foothold in Queensland,” says Justin.
“The restructure has not only strengthened MaxiTrans’ Parts division in regard to our overall presence in the market, but also in respect of our product offering. On the tyre side, for instance, we can now provide an true peace-of-mind package,” he adds. In addition to Triangle tyres, Colrain’s clientele can choose Fullchamp aluminium wheels and a steel alternative made by Maxus. “We can offer complete tyre and wheel bundles to the OEM market that are backed by a competitive five-year warranty.” On the retail front, the combined Colrain/ QDS network is forging ahead at the same speed, offering similar package deals as the wholesale division. “We are already selling TBR tyres over the counter and supply major fleets all around the continent, but there’s more to come,” says Justin. “We are going to release a new brand of tyres soon that is aimed squarely at distribution via our retail network. Just watch out.”
